Delémont, the capital of Switzerland's newest canton, formed in 1979, has a population of 12,000 and a pretty, baroque Old Town, containing numerous statuetted fountains, narrow streets and secluded rear courtyards. Visit the imposing, baroque castle, once the summer residence of the ruling bishops of Basle. The magnificent wide open spaces of the surrounding Jura landscape are an inviting location for adventurous sports activities: rambling, cycling, horse-riding, canoeing, etc.

On the edge of town

The modern, cosy youth hostel of Delémont is located on the outskirts of the town. The building is surrounded by a large garden, filled with plants and wild flowers. The woods and stream opposite the youthhostel provide an area for adventure and play. The pretty little town of Delémont is only a 15 minutes walk away. Families often bring their bicycles along so that they can go on trips into the Jura countryside.

Getting here

A 1.5 hours train ride from Zürich, 30 minutes from Basle and 1 hour from Berne. The youth hostel is 20 minutes' walk from the station or a ride on the bus to the stop "Morépont" and 5 minutes walk from there.

(From Delémont Railway Station 1.7 km, from Morépont Station 400m, approx. 5 minutes)

Take the Postauto from Delémont Railway Station in the direction of Moutier (around 3 minutes). The Postauto departs at hourly intervals, and claims to offer wheelchair access. Alight at the bus stop Morépont, then 4 minutes to the Youth Hostel (pavement).

From the pavement, a gravel path with a moderate upwards incline leads to a steep asphalt ramp, and this leads to the entrance.

The Youth Hostel has parking spaces (gravel parking area, located approx. 20 metres from the main entrance).
